‘Cake is not a cake’: Chocolate cake decoration sparks debate

“If you want to go out, then you can’t just get on the subway and do nothing.”

– Mabel Cressman, former chef at the iconic restaurant, El Camino Real, in Los Angeles, California.

“I don’t know if it’s the people in this country who don’t understand how to make a cake or the people who have a tendency to just think of it as a cake.”

– Cressmans husband, David, a restaurant manager at the same restaurant, tells Al Jazeera.

“It’s not like cake is a cake.

You don’t just put buttercream on a cake, you put chocolate and cream on a chocolate cake.”

In this episode, Al Jazeera’s correspondent, Michael O’Brien, travels to the UK for a series of stories about the food, culture and politics of the UK.
